Juice and Smoothie Recipes to Lower Cholesterol

This month we have focused on using juices and smoothies to achieve greater health results. While there are many benefits of each, it’s important to remember that specific drinks can be used to treat a variety of illnesses.

One common ailment many people face is high cholesterol.  Cholesterol is a fat-like substance in your body’s cells that helps with food digestion and makes Vitamin D and is the backbone to many hormones.  Diets high in saturated fats, processed foods, and baked goods will increase levels of cholesterol.  Over time, this can lead to a clinical diagnosis of high cholesterol, otherwise known as hypercholesterolemia.  This, in turn, can lead to atherosclerosis (a buildup of plaque in the arteries,) and coronary heart disease.  Eating wisely, getting regular exercise, and taking good care of yourself is the best way to prevent disease, but if you do have high cholesterol, you can work closely with your health care provider to find the solution that is best for you.

In the meantime, try one of the following drinks to help lower your cholesterol and protect your heart.

Cholesterol-Lowering Tonic
compliments of The Complete Book of Juicing, by Michael T. Murray N.D.

  • ¼ inch slice of ginger
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Handful of parsley
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 apple, cut into wedges
  • Splash of tabasco (optional)

Juice the ginger and garlic first by placing them in the center of a handful of parsley and feed it into the juicer. (This reduces much of the garlic’s odor.) Follow with the carrots and the apple.

NutriBullet Cholesterol Crusher Blast Smoothie
compliments of NutriBullet Recipe Collection

  • ½ banana
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 2 cups kales
  • ½ cup oatmeal, cooked
  • 2 tablespoons cacao, raw
  • 10 almonds

Place ingredients into blender and blend to desired level of consistency.

Lowering your cholesterol can slow and can potentially stop the buildup of arterial plaque.  This is a key step toward better cardiac health and longevity.  You have been working hard to make healthy lifestyle choices, and you are doing a great job.  If you have your own recipes for juices or smoothies that you would like to share, please feel free to post them on our Facebook page-

Next time we will wrap up the month with another set of recipes for better health and wellness.
