Why do we need to sleep a minimum of 8 hours nightly for health? I get asked this question all the time. Patients tell me they can function on 3 to 4 hours of sleep per night. Function? This is the key word. You are just functioning. Sleep deprivation causes more then fatigue. It affects the entire body, mind and emotional responses to life.

When you sleep you heal. Your immune system is strengthened. Your nervous system becomes calm by quieting the brain and reorganizing information. Mental energy is restored. Muscle tissue is healed and restored. When you become sleep deprived, the body is no longer able to perform these necessary tasks of renewing and healing the body.
