High blood pressure, or hypertension, is often called the silent killer. That’s because it puts you at higher risk of a stroke, heart attack and heart disease, yet you might not know you even have it.
The sad truth, though, is that it is so easy to detect. One benefit of regular visits to a healthcare provider is that one of the first things they’ll do is check your blood pressure.
If they find anything of concern, they can begin addressing it immediately, with advice for a healthier diet and exercise routine, and potentially daily tracking of your blood pressure at home.
Why it Matters
It’s possible to have high blood pressure for a long period of time without having any symptoms. Yet the force of blood against your artery walls could be elevated, causing your arteries to become narrower, increasing your risk of serious health issues.
On the flip side, as soon as your healthcare provider discovers you have high blood pressure, they can help you control it, and even possibly eliminate it, with the proper nutrition and regular forms of exercise.
